Cleansing Energy With More Than Just Sage

Cleansing Energy With More Than Just Sage

Energy cleansing is a sacred art and ritual used for centuries. Energetic clearing, also known as smudging or cleansing, is an ancient North American Indigenous spiritual ritual. It was also and still is ever-present in Buddhist, Taoist, and Shinto temples as well. It is more than nonchalantly waving a bundle of sage around. As non-native individuals and holistic health practitioners, it is our responsibility to be informed and respectful of this sacred and powerful practice.

Cleansing is not simply an act of protection, but is a way to invoke ceremony as a means to manifest positive energy and intention into our lives and space. You can clear energy in a physical space or for a person and their physical container.

Clearing energy is absolutely necessary. If the environment feels off, you’ve experienced loss or negative setbacks, great change and uncertainty, and many more: cleaning and clearing energy will move these vibrations out to keep our spaces, minds and spirit free and clear for our own expansion. Just as you take a shower, wash your sheets and clean your home, addressing the “energy” of your space and your self should also take priority in your routine.

The 5 Step Process Whitmark Uses for Energy Cleansing:

  1. Remove Negative and Stagnant Energy
  2. Make Space for New and Clear Energy
  3. Creative Pathways for an Uplifting Environment
  4. Facilitate Connection and Grounding for Growth and Balance
  5. Creative an Intentional Environment to Manifest and Attract Abundance

Sage is without a doubt the go to for most people; it is a trusted ally which can help move energies. Burning the bundled leaves in any space will create a smoke that permeates the room and moves unseen and unwanted energies out. It is the most commonly known energy cleanser to the general public. White Sage (Salvia Apiana) is traditionally used as a space clearing plant, to remove negative energy indoors and out. Its fresh herbal fragrance rejuvenates the mind and enhances both clarity and memory. Truth be told, there are more options than sage to provide a supportive energetic cleansing experience. At Whitmark, we use a combination of white sage and four other herbs and minerals in our standard practice.

  • Palo Santo - A powerhouse for clearing stagnant energy and creating a sacred space. It is particularly supportive in intention setting, manifesting and restoring energy. In addition to its purification qualities, it is known as the “Holy Wood” and acts as a magnet for abundance and fortune.
  • Frankincense - While it provides protection and purification, this powerful cleanser produces a heightened spiritual awareness and acts as a natural antidepressant.
  • Pachouli - Anchoring and rooting: in many spiritual traditions, patchouli is used to facilitate reconnection with the earth. It also makes it possible to stay centered and stable in moments of emotional or mental turbulence.
  • Rosemary -  An herb that aids in spiritual growth, enabling individuals to connect with their higher selves and achieve a deeper level of consciousness. It is seen as a facilitator of self-reflection and introspection.

We have studied energy healing and clearing in order to provide you with an authentic and respectful experience to those who came before us. These five elements are the staples in our practice, among dozens of others that are hand selected given the situation and intention at hand. Remember: Everything is energy, creates energy and holds energy. It is our responsibility to embrace that by caring for energy in the most thoughtful way possible.
