Creating a sacred space, whether inside your home, or outside your home (or both!) offers a unique refuge for deeper connection with your intentions. This is a place for us to create a threshold between earthly distractions and our highest self. We cultivate a peaceful, healing environment to set our intentions and allow space for that energy to exist in its purest form. Having a sacred space, also allows you a place to visit for support as part of your intention-setting rituals.
Most of us need the visual, physical element of any practice. Take when I first began meditating for example: I used to practice all over my home. Eventually, I found one spot that I kept intuitively returning to. I noticed that, over time, that positive energy was building in that space. It was my go-to spot for decompressing the mind, body, and soul. Deciding that the area would be my sacred space was the turning point in my practice. The impact of that “spot” was the difference between going through the motions and building that true connection. That is the power of a sacred space. When intention setting, a sacred space, no matter how small of an area, holds such value in your practice.
It’s important to note that a sacred space is unique for everyone. What makes it sacred is the personal connection to your intentions. You are the conduit for this energy and there is no way to do this wrong and there are no rules! This is simply guidance for your own interpretation of how to create a space best for you.
- Declutter - First and foremost, clearing a space of clutter clarifies the space, as we know everything holds energy. Keep that clarity available for your space gives it a protective environment. This is a space you’ll continue to go back to for a ritual, so a blank slate is the best way to start.
- Find a Window - I personally like to have my sacred space by a window, for a variety of reasons. The most important being that the window can welcome in new fresh energy, even when it’s not open. Given the practice of intention setting that I do in my sacred space, I like the ability to welcome that energy in. It also serves as a great way to naturally charge my crystals and invite light into and on my space.
- Crystals Curation - While I adjust what crystals are prominently displayed in my sacred space regularly, I do have my general “support system” of crystals available. Clear Quartz, Amethyst, Selenite, Obsidian. I always want this space to be clear, protective, and grounding to connect with my intentions. Those crystals are a wonderful foundation for how I move mind, body and spirit. We have a free crystal alignment guide, if you are looking for what crystals can best support your intentions.
- Journal Space - For me, a journal or something to write on a natural fit for a sacred space. I also keep a pen and some loose small pieces of paper that I place in my “intention jar.” When it doubt write it out!
- Supportive Items - Intention Candles are wonderful supportive accents to your sacred space. Our intention candles will help connect with you on a conscious level with our aromatherapy and crystal alignment to support your experience. The flame of the candle is a conduit of light and the heat can help activate your intentions. You’ll also commonly see affirmation cards, books that hold meaning to you, photographs, flowers and statues in a sacred space.
As always, listen to your intuition and use your discernment. A sacred space doesn't need to be an entire room, nor anything extravagant - it’s a simply a designated space, created with intention to support your practice. Whether you go and meditate, journal, set intentions, etc., creating this space is great foundational step!
